When Peace Like a River Attends My Way

Watching the news on TV or social media and/or reading newspapers gives us little or no sense of order or peace in today’s world!  Rather, it gives us a sense of bewilderment and fear that so many major things have gone wrong in such a short period of time and no one seems to be in charge to fix them.  There is a strong sense of “going through the motions,” but nothing seems to happen to remedy these man-made disasters.  Natural disasters (heat waves, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.) are becoming regular occurrences. Then, there is the Covid pandemic that has divided our frustrated nation even further!  Where is God in all this?  He’s in charge!

God is all-knowing and is well aware of everything that goes on the world every day!  In Matthew 10:29-30, Jesus says “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside Your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”  God is never surprised, deceived or on vacation!  He hears and answers every prayer that you pray according to His perfect will.  As His children, God wants to build trust in His goodness and provision in our hearts so that we can lead abundant lives as His children as testimony to His Lordship.

The words of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 were made into a song in the 70s titled “Turn, Turn, Turn,” and these timeless words apply very well in our current times:

There is an appointed time for everything. And there is time for every event under heaven –

A time to give birth, and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.”

Ponder these things and ask for God’s peace in all things.  He is waiting to talk with you about your life and your world if you will just ask him!
