A Bruised Reed

“A bruised reed He will not break; and a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice.” (Isaiah 42:3 NASB)

This wonderful word of God from the Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament has been an especially anointed scripture throughout my Christian walk with Jesus. At the very moment of giving up, He has reminded me that He will never break me and forsake me!  He probably has a garage full of bottles that hold all the tears I have shed during my life as each crisis hit! The devil is a brutal and a determined stalker of peace, happiness and joy and will use every opportunity to tear you down, crush your spirit and leave you in utter despair. However, my God is an awesome God! He reigns in heaven above with power, mercy and love!

The God I know will never throw water on a dimly burning wick, barely able to keep the flame alive. He comes along aside of you and fans the smoldering flame into a strong and pure light that conquers the darkness, doubt and fear of the problem you are dealing with. Jesus is the Light of the world and there is no darkness in Him. In the Book of Revelation, John writes that to God the day and the night are the same. The glory of His presence covers any bit of darkness that tries to sneak into His kingdom. He speaks forth and the darkness flees because it cannot stand in the light of His presence!

Let me encourage you in these days of darkness and turmoil and situations we have never experienced before to look to this scripture and believe it with all of your heart, mind and spirit! God will never turn away from you, never stop listening to your cries for help, and never leave you guessing if He is even there when you need Him the most! Jesus paid the price of our sins to ensure that God can be the Father that we need, the Son Who is our best friend, and the Holy Spirit that fills your being with hope and peace!

All my heart can sing is “How great is my God”!

Blessings,

Joyce
